“Our hearts go out to the people of Chile as they cope
with the immediate aftermath of this earthquake and the continuing
aftershocks,” says David Meltzer, senior vice president of
international services with the American Red Cross. “Thanks to the
generosity of the American people who previously donated to our
International Relief Fund, we’ve been able to release an initial
pledge to help the Chilean people in their hour of need and we stand
ready to provide additional assistance.”

The Red
Cross Grand Canyon Chapter will be hosting an International
Humanitarian Law class on March 27, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to
5:00 p.m.. This free course is open to the
public.

oppportunity, send an e-mail to: estraining@arizonaredcross.org.
International humanitarian law is everyone's concern. In
a world where warfare and civil strife are a daily reality for
millions, international humanitarian law provides a framework of
protection for civilians and combatants alike.
The conduct
for warfare as embodied by IHL is laid out in the Geneva Conventions
of 1949. The American Red Cross has a unique mandate to educate the
American public about their guiding principles and the IHL
framework.

With today's pace of
military deployments, the armed forces are paying increasing
attention to preparing service members to cope with the
psychological stress of combat and its aftermath. The Red Cross
believes it is equally important to prepare family members to ensure
they are better able to deal with the challenges of 'serving' at
home while their loved one is deployed.

Arizona, over
one million children attend our public schools – schools with nearly
100,000 staff members, of which over 50,000 are classroom teachers.

prepared for classroom emergencies, the American Red Cross Grand
Canyon Chapter is offering training to Arizona teachers with grant
