Class Details
| | Description | This presentation is to teach participants how to be prepared for emergencies that involve a cat, and how to protect themselves and the cat from further harm, injury or suffering during emergencies by teaching prompt, effective first aid actions and care.
This presentation builds on first aid skills and provides guidance for emergency situations involving cats until veterinary care is available. |
| | Audience | Pet owners, animal regulation personnel and volunteers, pet groomers, pet rescue organizations, pet sitters, pet store owners and employees, and pet daycare owners and employees. |
| | Prerequisites | None |
| | Late Arrivals | In order to meet the needs of all class participants, the class start time is firm. Late arrivals may or may not be admitted at the instructor's discretion. |

| | Refund Policy | Refunds will be allowed if more than TWO (2) full business days (Monday - Friday) of notice is given prior to the first class date, subject to a $25 processing fee.
No refunds will be issued with less than TWO (2) business days' notice.
No refunds or transfers will be issued to participants that fail to show up for the class, or do not successfully complete the course.

Understand the importance of knowing the normal physical condition, behaviors and habits of the cat; identify a normal heart and pulse rate, breathing rate and body temperature for cats; describe how to safely approach an ill or injured cat; demonstrate how to safely capture and restrain a cat; explain how to check a cat that appears to be having a first aid emergency; describe how to check an unconscious cat for breathing and cardiac emergencies; describe how to give rescue breathing to a cat; describe how to perform CPR on a cat; describe how to care for a cat that is choking; describe how to care for shock for a cat; describe how to provide basic wound care and control bleeding for a cat; describe how to care for a cat with a suspected fracture; describe how to care for a cat with a suspected back or neck injury; describe how to care for a cat suffering from a burn; describe general care for a cat with a sudden illnesses; describe how to care for a cat that has a seizure; describe steps for caring for a cat that has been poisoned; describe how to care for a cat suffering from a heat- or cold-realated emergency; name the items that belong in a pet first aid kit; name the appropriate pet supplies that should be included in an emergency preparedness kit; and explain what should be considered when making a plan for their cat in the event of a disaster that requires evacuation. |
