Volunteers on the Scene of Two Fires in Phoenix

(PHOENIX) April 20, 2010 – American Red Cross volunteers are helping 19 people following two fires in Phoenix. Fourteen people were affected at an apartment fire near 7th Ave and Camelback. Five others were affected at a home fire near 16th Street and Southern.

A total of nine Red Cross responders are meeting with clients and making damage assessments to determine their immediate needs. The Red Cross will ensure everyone has a safe place to sleep. Also, volunteers are providing the 10 adults and 9 children with the means to obtain food, clothing, and other essentials

Over the next several days, our client services volunteers and staff will monitor the clients and provide referrals, as they begin their road to recovery.

The Grand Canyon chapter responded to 534 disasters during our last fiscal year. We’re able to meet the immediate needs of our neighbors in need through the generous support of Arizonans. If you would like to make a donation to help victims of a local disaster like this one, please call 602-336-6660 or go to www.arizonaredcross.org.
