BHHS Legacy Foundation Awards Local American Red Cross $10,000 Grant
(PHOENIX) April 30, 2010 – BHHS Legacy Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross. The grant is a gift for the Safe Families – Safe Communities program. The nonprofit organization will use the funding for disaster relief in Mohave County.
This ‘Safe Families – Safe Communities’ grant is funded as a result of generous financial support from BHHS Legacy Foundation which is an Arizona charitable organization whose philanthropic mission is to enhance the quality of life and health of those it serves.
The mission of the Red Cross is to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters such as home fires, floods and wildfires. Red Cross volunteers are on the scene of devastation helping people who have lost so much. “Through the generosity of BHHS Legacy Foundation, the Red Cross will ensure Mohave County disaster victims have a safe place to sleep, food to eat and emotional support”, said Cara Sloman, Grand Canyon Chapter emergency services director.
Last year, Grand Canyon Chapter volunteers responded to 37 disasters in Mohave County helping 120 people by providing nearly $24,000 in direct financial assistance.
“BHHS Legacy Foundation understands the vital role the Red Cross plays in Arizona neighborhoods”, said Dan Oehler, BHHS Legacy Foundation board chair. “Together, we can strengthen our communities and help people remain independent following a disaster.”
