If I become a volunteer with the Grand
Canyon Chapter, am I eligible to participate in large disaster relief
operations?
Eligibility for deployment to national and/or
local disaster relief operations is a part of Disaster Services Human
Resources (DSHR). All disaster volunteers are required to join this
system. There are over 30 jobs within the DSHR system. So depending on
your skills, talents, and areas of interest, one or more of these jobs
might be just right for you.
I volunteered with a Red Cross chapter in
another state and recently moved to Arizona. How do I become a volunteer with the Grand
Canyon Chapter?
If you have been an active volunteer with
another chapter, please contact the Grand Canyon Chapter Volunteer
Resources department at volunteer@arizonaredcross.org or call
602-347-6512 for more information. You will be asked to complete a local
application and a request to transfer your record from your previous
chapter.
I live in a small community and there
is no Red Cross office near me. Can I still become a
volunteer?
Absolutely! The Grand Canyon Chapter covers
Mohave, LaPaz, Yuma, Coconino, Yavapai, Maricopa, Pinal, Gila,
Navajo and Apache counties. Although a physical office may be far away,
volunteers do hold meetings locally. Please complete the on-line
application process at www.arizonaredcross.org. You will be contacted by a
local representative to discuss the opportunities available in your
community.
I belong to a group that would like to
volunteer together. What should we do?
Group opportunities may vary. Please contact
the Volunteer Department at volunteer@arizonaredcross.org. Include your name
and contact information, the name of your group and link to Web site (if
you have one), and what your specific volunteer interest
is.
Does the American Red Cross and the
Grand Canyon Chapter conduct background checks on
volunteers?
Yes. The Red Cross believes that in order to
maintain the trust of the American people and provide them with the best
quality service, Red Cross employees and volunteers must undergo
background checks. You will receive more information on completing your
background check during your New Volunteer Orientation.
I am under 18 years of age. May I
volunteer with the American Red Cross?
Yes. The Red Cross highly values the
contributions of young adults. Parental/Guardian permission is
required. |
